Project Overview
In January 2009, we partnered with a number of forward-thinking individuals and companies to explore how churches are effectively using web-based member communities and social networking applications to build community and positively impact others.
Please accept our invitation to participate in this research. With this survey we are asking you to identify your usage and experiences around these applications, as well as the impact they have created in your own life and church community. We aim to dive beneath the surface of traditional metrics in order to determine how these tools promote and influence activities that are central to being Christian and being the church.
About the Survey
- The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete. There are some cases where you will be presented with additional questions in order to explore certain issues deeper. In those cases, we’ve tried to give you options to limit how many questions you will see.
- You do not need to complete the survey in one sitting, as long as you submit it by Tuesday, September 15; you can stop at any question, click “save” and come back later.
- Please do not spend too much time thinking about each question; there are no “right” answers. If you are unsure of how to respond, please move on to the next question.
- Your openness and honesty is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your participation!
Invite Others to Participate
Help us to extend the reach and impact of our research by telling others about the survey:
Despite the impressive growth of social networking, most individuals still are not engaging social media. We seek their involvement as well. Who do you else do know that you could ask to take the survey?
Community Participation
We are seeking groups who are willing to have their members participate. We want to look within an established community and see how social media is affecting the entire group. If you are the leader of a church or nonprofit and you would be willing to distribute a version of this survey within your organization, please email us at research@unconventionalmethod.com.

Preliminary results from the survey indicate that –
7 out of 10 church leaders believe that "If Jesus were alive today He would have a profile on a social network."
What do you think?
Kevin, Jesus is alive today. This site and other recorded instances of the love one human shows to another testify to his majesty. Thankfully, Jesus has many profiles and many hands,
Well said. Thank you.
[...] Winding down after Day one. I hate to use an over used term but it was a bit like sipping water from a Fire hose. Started with Drew Goodmanson out of San Diego, Kaleo Church discussing Ministry’s approach to the Internet and going Beyond Web 2.0. Excellent info and has begun some interesting work with outside firms studying actual web viewing statistics within the Christian Community and church attenders. Jesus would go anywhere the fish are!
Great point.
If it were not for the Lord, where would I be?
[...] #1. Piggybacking off of Cynthia Ware and Drew Goodmanson’s popularity. I was fortunate enough to work with these two amazing people researching how social media is helping the church be the church. [...]
